Note me
On the 25th of November 2009, I've been given the honour to be a guest during the awarding of the Gusi Peace Prize in Manila, Philippines. I never thought I would be sitting in the third row of the large Meralco Theater when I arrived. My aunt, who was one of the doctors invited, is a friend of one of the awardees, Silvia Scherer from Switzerland, who was awarded for Biotechnology.
For a quick definition, the Gusi Peace Prize is an award given to individuals working toward the attainment of peace and respect for human life and dignity. It has been referred to as the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize.
I myself was surprised to find out that the founder of my school, Ambassador Preciosa S. Soliven, was one of the awardees present. Not surprisingly, her award was for Academe.
For the ones that did honour us with their presence, their achievements were inspiring, and for many, their bravery and respect for human life, legendary.
